Tow safe - Keep your distance - video transcript

Narrator: Stay clear of people and boats on the water the shore in populated areas and jetties, landing stages, moorings and other structures. Make sure the people being towed are at least 7 metres behind the vessel and that the towed person wears an appropriate life jacket. The distance off from the shore and obstructions should be 30 metres and this includes other powered craft. Always keep the required distance from other craft and take action to avoid collisions. But for non-powered boats, like kayaks and sailing boats, the distance off is 60 metres and make sure that the boat and device being towed keeps at least 60 metres clear of swimmers. Remember your boat has a prop spinning at some 3000 revolutions per minute and the last you want is those blades going anywhere near a person in the water.
