Marine Enforcement Team

9 November 2018

The Marine Area Command (NSW Police) through the support of the Centre for Maritime Safety will be providing enhanced enforcement on NSW waterways across the boating season.

The NSW Police Minister, Troy Grant yesterday joined Marine Area Commander, Superintendent Mark Hutchings and Executive Director Centre for Maritime Safety, Bernard Carlon in unveiling 14 new jet skis for use by the Marine Enforcement Team (MET) this summer.

The MET is a dedicated mobile Police response unit that will be tasked with reducing anti-social behaviour and reckless boating across the State.

The team will be comprised of officers from the Marine Area Command and will be primarily located within the Sydney Metropolitan area, as well as Newcastle and Port Stephens during the boating season. They will work in collaboration with the RMS Maritime on-water compliance effort.

The additional funding will enable the MET team to focus on ensuring safe and responsible boating and monitoring any reckless or dangerous behaviour taking place on or near the water.

This is part of a broader partnership between the Centre for Maritime Safety and MAC that is delivering a Maritime Enhanced Enforcement Program in NSW.
